Fat Kids Radio

Live Weekly on BlogTalkRadio

Happy New Year!!

I know it’s a few weeks late but hey it’s the thought that counts right. Well I know that we haven’t made our return to the radio yet, but don’t write us off. Now that the holidays are gone we are ready to get down to  what we do best, entertain you.

Thanks to everyonew who listens to us and frequent our site. I assure you we are far from done!

Gotta love this…

Although I got bored with “Little Big Planet” quickly, this is simply awesome!

So with nine episodes in the can, a pretty uneven schedule, and fluctuating quality, our little radio show has still managed to have 392 listeners! Now while this is a far cry from a million, I think its something to be proud of. Here is a show by show breakdown:

Episode 1:
75 listeners (archive)
0 listeners (live)
2 callers

Episode 2:
47 listeners (archive)
5 listeners (live)
3 callers

Episode 3:
48 listeners (archive)
13 listeners (live)
4 callers

Episode 4:
35 listeners (archive)
6 listeners (live)
6 callers

Episode 5:
21 listeners (archive)
8 listeners (live)
2 callers

Episode 6:
45 listeners (archive)
10 listeners (live)
4 callers

Episode 7:
17 listeners (archive)
2 listeners (live)
2 callers

Episode 8:
17 listeners (archive)
4 listeners (live)
4 callers

Episode 9:
29 listeners (archive)
4 listeners (live)
3 callers

Now my numbers don’t add up to the 392, even when subtracting the callers, so I’m not sure how BlogTalk got the 392, but that’s the number we are sticking with. Also, as far as I know, this does not count our iTunes downloads either, so we are happy. Thanks for listening!

Hello FatKidsRadio listeners, Brandon here, with a couple quick updates on the status of the show.

First off, please admire that cool, new, sleek player on the sidebar. BlogTalkRadio got a major facelift and it seems to be for the best.

This Sunday, Jimmy and I will be heading to Charlotte to attend the TNA pay per view, Genesis. We plan to spend some of the drive up and back, discussing the future of the show, the format, and so forth. We may even have a new show the week after via BlogTalkRadio, but we’ll see.

Both Jimmy and I have begun to use Twitter, so be sure to follow us if you can:

I’m a big fan of hockey. Have been all my life, despite never living anywhere near a pro team (until now) nor anywhere where it snowed. I blame the damn Mighty Ducks movie, because once I saw that, I was just hooked. Fuckin Emilio Esteves! Anyway, some people like it, some people don’t but to quote the great Patrick Swayze in “Youngblood,” “Thank God there is a sport for middle-sized white boys.”

Since the lockout a couple of years ago,  my interest wavered a bit. My beloved Avalanche went from a all-star roster, to a bunch of scrubs and the lack of cable television killed any chance of me seeing games. Add the fact that the NHL moved to the Versus channel and only aired a game or two a week, just seemed to distance me even further. And the final nail in the coffin was the fact that there are no good minor league teams anywhere near here. Since Raleigh, hosts the Hurricanes, catching a game with the old lady and still being able to afford rent just isn’t an option, like it was when I’d visit my beloved CHL team, the Mississippi Riverkings, while living in Memphis. Fifteen bucks got us great tickets, parking, an a couple Cokes. Fifteen dollars at the Hurricanes barely covers parking.

So other than the video games, I stopped following quite so closely. I’d check up on the scores and the latest trades, but that was about the most I would do. Then this year, the NHL announced the NHL GameCenter, which consists of streaming upwards of 40 games a week from all over the league. It was a bit pricey, but after the free trial week, I decided it was something I had to have.

I ended up purchasing NHL 2k9 which gave me a free sixty day trial and I’ve been milking that watching games almost nightly. But as my trial came to an end, there seemed to be a mix up on the reduced cost I was to pay for the second half of the season and I grew frustrated. I started to think maybe my time watching hockey on the net was over with and figured maybe I’d just pay the $30 bucks for the playoffs when they came.

But then I stumbled upon a great site that streams most of the games in the correct screen format (unlike NHL.com) and even at a higher quality then NHL.com. I was in heaven! The I ran across a very active torrent site that uploads games daily and joy just over came me. Right now, I’m preparing to enjoy some Pittsburgh goodness in about an hour and a half via free streams.

I’m excited that the internet has given me the opportunity to enjoy the sport I love, especially since there isn’t much I really like anymore. NASCAR has hit such a low, I doubt I’ll ever watch again, and wrestling is possibly at its worst in sixty years. That just leaves me with hockey.

I ended up typing a lot more than I had intended, all I wanted to do was introduce this clip I’m posting. It’s one of the coolest goals I’ve ever seen and figured even non-hockey fans would appreciate it. Anyway, if you actually visit YouTube you can watch the video in high quality, so check it out!

It’s been a little over two weeks since our last broadcast and with Christmas around the corner, that was probably our last for 2008. It seems with Christmas time running rampant, along with the busier work schedules, Fat Kids is just going to have to take a break until things slow down. But never fear citizens, we will be back and better than ever in 2009 and here is what we’ve got planned.

Fat Kids is not just a radio show, but a way of life. We here at Fat Kids Radio, plan on expanding our Fat Kids brand into a little more than your just slightly better than average podcast, but into something you can live for. Okay.. maybe we are taking it a bit far, but Fat Kids is going to grow and this all begins with increasing the production value of the show.

As mentioned multiple times over the past couple months, we have pretty much decided to take Fat Kids off the live format. Gone will be lag issues, connection issues, chat rooms freezing up, and general droppage of calls. Instead, we are going to go for a pre-taped show so that we can assure a high quality sound, accompanied by some rockin tunes, and hopefully a few guests that don’t have to wait five seconds to hear our questions. Plus Jimmy and I both agree the chemistry will be ten times better with us in the same room, so expect some greatness to come from that.

We are also hoping to start churning out some blogs here on Fat Kids. Topics to include all sorts of geekdom; from video games to wrestling. Plus we’ll continue to provide a great resource for the greatest geek trailers, plus anything we talk about on the show.

Something else, we’d also like to do some video blogging, however right now we just don’t have the equipment for it. Hopefully in the near future we can rectify that.

That’s just a short list of what we have going on here at Fat Kids in the Basement, so please bear with us as we get through the holidays and check back for all the greatness to come!

Thanks,

Brandon

What????

Did I just wish the readers Merry Christmas..Yes I did. It seems for the past few years everything has become so politically correct that we have to rephrase everything so as not to offend anyone.  Well for the first time in the history of Fat Kids History I call Bulls (clap) Hit (Penn Radio reference)

Ever since I was a little kid well into my adulthood the calendar has clearly show that December 25 was Christmas.. It annoys me to no end when I go to any local store or my current work place and I wish someone Merry Christmas and I get a “look” like I slapped their Grandma.

There has even been a time or two when I was corrected. I was told it’s not proper to say Merry Christmas because not everyone celebrates Christmas, I should say Happy Holidays.

Well Excuse me!! I could care less if I offend you. I have been on this earth for 31 years and I have and always will wish people A Merry Christmas.  If someone wishes me a Happy Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa  I smile and say Thank you. Whats next?? the death penalty for saying Happy Birthday geez people get a hobby and let the rest of the free world do as they wish without having to throw your two cents in.

On a serious note This has nothing to do with faith. I have many friends who are not Christian who still say Merry Christmas. So before anyone stumbles across this blog and decides to go that route remember it doesn’t matter what you call it the Calendar will always show Dec 25th as Christmas day.

So while I didn’t use polls or references to back up my blog, I did use something that goes farther.. my heart. So please just enjoy the season with your families and stop being a buzz kill to everyone else.

Until next time..

Merry Christmas from The Fat Kids!!

Well, its Saturday night, and the Fat Kids outing to Charlotte was canceled due to some unforeseeable circumstances, so I’m here to do my already belated update.

If you caught our last show, Jimmy and I went back to the hour long format and covered (as usual) a variety of topics. We talked about decluttering and personal finance, Jimmy’s Black Friday outing, why pro wrestling sucks right now and more. It was a fun show as usual and we are hoping for many more.

We are however, going to take this next week off. With Christmas coming up, and our schedules becoming more and more hectic, it might be after Christmas before we come back. If thats the case, I promise we’ll be doing some fun updates here at FatKidsRadio.com. We are actually hoping to expand the brand in the near future, so maybe this will give us time to do that.

I really hope you enjoyed the Ghostbusters Game trailer and The Wrestler trailer.
